Brains Need Rest

Last night while cleaning the kitchen I was listening to this podcast, by Brené Brown.

Here’s the thing, y’all. Brains get tired. According to a neurobiologist on the show, it’s true. The brain power that the last 9 months have required from us, has made us all very, very tired.

The remainder of the podcast talked about the fact that we are not going back to “normal” and that’s probably a good thing, because we have an opportunity to make “after-COVID” a heckuva lot better for everyone.

But the thing is…we are all tired. Our brains need rest.

Here at The Spark Mill we are closing our office from Monday, December 21st until Monday, January 4th. We believe our staff and our clients need a two-week break, to really slow down, take deep breaths and most importantly to sign out of Zoom. Big things are coming in 2021, and they are going to require all we’ve got, so we must be at our strongest to be prepared to take it on.

But the thing is…we are all tired. Our brains need rest.

If you are like me, you have little kids at home, and a “to-do” list for home and life stuff that only multiplies.  It would make sense to cross them off during this break, but I invite you to join me in doing what brings you joy. Keep the “must-do’s” on the list but forget the rest (trust me, I know how hard this is!) Take advantage of the CDC’s recommendations to stay home this holiday season, and rest.

If you are someone who has the power to give your staff extra time off over the next couple of weeks, I encourage you to do it. Brains are tired, they need rest. If it can wait, let it. Your staff will appreciate it and come back more loyal and energized than ever.

We wish you a restful end of the year, and look forward to powering ahead with you in 2021!
