Celebrating Volunteers in #RVA, Announcing 2nd Annual Power of Good
Power of Good: 2015
We had so much fun celebrating National Volunteer Week at last year’s Power of Good event we couldn’t imagine not doing it again this year! The Spark Mill is excited to once again partner with HandsOn Greater Richmond to celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 12-18, by recognizing unsung volunteers of the Richmond region. We all know someone who tirelessly and selflessly volunteers behind the scenes at an area nonprofit or faith community to ensure work gets done and things run smoothly. This is their moment in the spotlight, to give them a big ole pat on the back and round of applause. For most volunteers, a simple “thank you” can keep them going for months – but we think, why not go above and beyond for them, like they do for Richmond?
Start BY nominating a volunteer
From February 23-March 20 we will be accepting nominations of volunteers in the region, asking the question - How do they power good in our community?
Next, join us to celebrate
This year's event, which will be held on Friday, April 17 from 4pm-7pm, will feature Power of Good poetry. An assortment of 20 distinctive and/or recurring words culled from the nomination entries will be offered for attendees to use as inspiration for Power of Good poetry - created via magnetic poetry board, chalk board, or screen printing. Also, we are partnering with the lovely Patience Salgado, who will be presenting a photographic documentary of 10 randomly selected nominees, which will be gifted to the individual at the conclusion of the evening. (More about the event here) Thanks to Kim Lee Photography for volunteering to photograph the event.
MORE ABOUT Patience Salgado
Patience Salgado is a kindness worker, social impact artist and photographer from Richmond, Virginia. As a seasoned kindness worker, community organizer and messy human, she believes with all of her heart that our RVA and the world shines bright when we allow kindness to lead us across divisions of race, culture, class and creed for the depth of human connection. You can check out Patience's last project at The Light of Human Kindness and her current work at HumanKIND (coming soon). HumanKIND is a collection of stories and photos of all the moments where our humanity and kindness meet. It's a place where together we find there is beauty in the dark and power in the light.
