Strategic Plan Theme Development: A Beautiful Mess
There are millions of types of strategic plan processes. The kind we stand behind is ruled by the law of fourths.
- 1/4 Gathering of information
- 1/4 Theme exploration and consensus building
- 1/4 Writing and organizing
- 1/4 Implementation planning
After information is collected there is a space in between the interviews and focus groups where we aim to take the paper and the words and the beliefs that surround your organization and make sense of it all. Its like soup making, but in reverse.
Our process is to write it all out and then cut it into little strips of paper and start sorting. This hands-on approach is where threads are discovered and priceless themes are uncovered. We believe that you must touch and play and interact with the data in order to humanize it and let it take you to the more robust themes, rather than living in the organizational buckets.
But, to do this you do have to start with a beautiful mess.
