Snow Day and Simple Things courtesy of Sylvia Plath

Well, I know now. I know a little more how much a simple thing like a snowfall can mean to a person
— Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

Instead of cursing another snow day I am taking time today to think about the simple things that make a difference to people in our work.  The most simple and most impactful being the pure thank you.  The kind of thank you delivered without expectation.  In 2014 I have made it a goal to say thank you more often. Earlier this week I sent a colleague this note,I zipped it off in an email but I truly meant it.

In case no one told you recently, you’re an absolute joy to work with. Thank you for all the hard work.

Today I am at home working from my desk with a view of snow and soggy kids throwing snow balls.  I'm taking this time to send thank you notes to a few volunteers and nonprofits in the area not because they are my clients, but because they deserved to be thanked.  I'm not sure if it is the snow or Valentine's Day tomorrow or the inspiration that I am pulling from Sylvia Plath, but today I am focused on the simple things and making a difference in a simple way.

How are you making a difference today?
