6 Characteristics of Leadership You Don't Get in Business School

This is hard. Really, really, really hard.

Join us at 11am on Friday, and once a week on Facebook Live to commiserate, ask questions, or just to interact.

And, the truth is that I wish we could all just lay in bed and tune out everything until it all is better. But I know that most of us can’t. Especially since so many of you are running organizations that we need more than ever right now or working to keep your business open or positioned to survive this. And I bet you are feeling the pressure to do it all and get it all right. I know we are here at The Spark Mill. But I want you to know, you already have what you need to make it through this, you wouldn’t be running organizations or companies if that wasn’t the case.

In Moments of Crisis: 6 Characteristics of Leadership

Communication—be clear concise and honest. It’s okay to not know every answer, it’s not okay to stay silent.

Empathy—love your people, know that this is hard on them and everyone expresses that differently. Lead with love and genuine caring.

Adaptability—let’s all assume that absolutely nothing is going to go as originally planned. Pivot, innovate, turn around and make timely decisions.

Creativity—go to the white board and brain dump. No idea is stupid, because this has never happened before. We need fresh and new and different ideas.

Self-control—keep it together when it matters. And when you have time and space to cry or be worried, do it. You can’t be a robot but you have to hold the pieces together.

Grit—this isn’t going to be over quickly, and we know that the impact may last for a long, long time. So drink your water, get your sleep, and stay in this for the long haul. You’ve got it in you.

We believe in you, and we are rooting for you every step of the way!

Sometimes it helps to have someone to talk this through with—and if that’s the case, please schedule a time to talk to one of our consultants – we help people work through change all of the time and would love to lend our ear and brain to you.
