2018 VIRGINIA CONFERENCE MINISTRY ACCELERATOR PARTICIPANTS
The FaithJustice Foundation is a new nonprofit organization formed to equip and empower faith communities to take action for social justice in cities, states, and on the national level. The goal of the FaithJustice Foundation is to provide education, training, resources, and eventually grant making to churches and faith-based organizations engaged in grassroots, social justice ministry, action, and advocacy.
GARY’S UMC PSALM 28:7 GYM MINISTRY
Psalm 28:7 Gym Ministry exists to engage youth in healthy activities that teach life skills though the discipline of strength training. The goal is to help youth through a healthy emotional and physical environment build their capacity for the future.
Rising Hope UMC addresses food insecurity in Alexandria, VA by bringing together rich and poor in a ministry that teaches and empowers all participants to serve Christ by serving the least among us. Low-income participants are treated with dignity and respect as they volunteers, serve and run the ministry. In addition to other initiatives, each year Rising Hope distributes $750,000 of donated food through its food pantry and warm meals ministry.
As part of its partnership with Skipwith Elementary School, each week during the school year SUMC delivers to backpacks filled with food for 35 children/families through the weekend.
STAUNTON COMMUNITY INITIATIVE
The Staunton District of the United Methodist Church along with several local churches is creating a way of authentic community engagement as means for meaningful community relationships and transformation.
